DEAR DAY Thursday, January 30th

Dear Parents and Students,

Students may wish to bring ONE pillow and ONE small stuffy animal.  No sleeping bags this time as our room will be filled with completed Science Fair boards.

I will spend time conferencing with students about their Science Fair projects and listening to their oral presentations.

5W French Plays Friday, January 31st

The Grade 5 French classes will be presenting their French play this coming Friday, January 31, at the following times in the 5W classroom.
5W: 1-2 pm and 5HR: 2-3 pm

All students should have fully memorized their lines, and should make sure to have their mask with them that day. Additional costumes may be worn if desired. Parents, if you are free on Friday, you are welcome to come and watch the students perform! If you are coming to watch the 5HR performance, please wait outside the classroom until 5W have finished, in case we happen to run over time a little.  This will avoid students being distracted mid-performance. I will open the door for you once we are ready to begin the second class’ plays. Hope to see you there.

Robbie Burns Celebration January 24th and French Play on January 31st and Science Fair

Dear Grade 5 Parents and Students,

Tomorrow is our Robbie Burns Celebration.  Students have been learning Scottish Dance in our Physical Education classes for the past few weeks and parents are most welcome to join us in the gym from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Students are asked to dress in tartan colours or black and white.  They are to bring their "Robbie Burns" clothes in a bag and change at lunch.  Students should also bring a water bottle.

Another exciting event for Grade 5 students is their French play performance on Friday, January 31st, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Parents are most welcome to watch their children speak French.

Lastly, students are continuing to work very hard on their Science Fair projects.  Most students have conducted their experiments and are now writing up their observations and conclusions.  Some students are even close to finishing their Science Fair boards.  Students should aim to complete their boards by Wednesday, January 29th.  I will open our classroom on Monday, January 27th, after school from 3:00-4:15 for students who may need extra time to work on their Science Fair projects.  Please let me know if your child needs any help to complete their Science Fair project.  Our school's Science Fair will take place in the gym from February 3rd to 6th.  All Grade 5 students are expected to attend the Science Fair Open House on February 6th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

I appreciate all the support that parents have provided their children to complete their Science Fair projects.

Thank you,

Mr.Wu

January 9, 2014

Dear 5W Parents and Students:

Happy New Year!  I hope that your family had a wonderful Christmas.  Students are writing about their holidays and I am looking forward to reading their stories on the weekend.

Here is a brief overview of our week:

Science--Everyday in class students are spending some time working on their Science Fair projects. By now most students have gathered their supplies and are ready to start their experiments at home or at school.    I will be available after school on Monday 13th and Thursday 16th from 3:15-4:15 for students who wish extra help or time working on their Science Fair projects in our classroom . Parents are welcome to drop by during these times if they have any questions also.  Please let me know how I may support your child with their Science Fair project.  Again, the Science Fair Week is from February 3-6th.

Physical Education --Mrs.Redfern is teaching our students how to Scottish Dance.  I am impressed by the great enthusiasm of our students who are learning new dance steps this week.

Social Studies-- Students have been reading about Nelson Mandela and South Africa.  In third term, students will learn more about South Africa in a fun, informative,  and interesting unit.

Math--Students have been learning about mental math solutions and how to use different kinds of estimating strategies.  Also, students will be learning different kinds of graphs as this may help them with their Science Fair projects.

Blessings,

Mr.Wu
