Dear Grade 5 Parents:
I hope you and your family have had a wonderful Christmas holiday. Can you believe it is already 2013? Here is a brief overview of what we are doing in the class:
Spelling--Students have received a new spelling list. The spelling test will be this Friday
Bible--Students will begin a unit on the Gospel of Luke. A new Bible Memory verse will be provided to students next week.
Science/Art--Students have learned about simple machines. Currently, we are learning about compound machines and how machines are used in the major industries of British Columbia such as fishing and forestry.
Also, students will design their own compound machine in Art.
Social Studies--Students are learning about the building of the railway in our province. Later, we will learn about immigration and citizenship in Canada.
Math--Students have received a new math mental package. Also, we will practice basic math skills and have math enrichment opportunities.
Hace--This week students have had an opportunity to write their own goals for 2013 such as reading for 20 minutes a day or studying for tests or completing homework assignments or working out for 3 times a week.
Reading--Students have just started reading The Secret World of Og. Students are required to complete a poster as part of their novel study.
