The Cannery Fieldtrip

Our student learning about the machines in the Cannery.

In the afternoon we enjoyed beautiful beach weather in Steveston.

October 16th 5W News

Dear Parents and Students:

We had an excellent field trip to the Cannery in Steveston yesterday. Our students learned about simple machines and how important salmon was in the history of British Columbia. Students have started writing a letter about their field trip today that will be sent home next week. A big thank you to all our parent-drivers!

They have been given a booklet that has information (geared at students) as well as some activities they can do to be tuned in to what is happening. Students were asked to use the internet to check out the platforms of each of the parties and share what they had learned.

On Monday, we will see firsthand how the voting takes place as we are hosting a station in our own school gym. Also, students will have a chance to participate in a mock student election in class. It is great to see students engaged in learning about the political parties and the electoral process in Canada.  I hope that there will be interesting discussions about the election at home this weekend.

Blessings,
