5W News Update May 20th to 23rd

Dear Parents and Students:

Here is a brief overview of the week:

Novel Study--We have completed our Underground to Canada unit. Next, we will be reading the Secret World of Og written by Canadian Pierre Burton.  Students will complete assignments for each chapter.

Social Studies and Current Events--We are reading about "Farley Mowat", a famous Canadian author who recently passed away at the age of 92.  Last week, we learned about the Prime Minister and this week students will be given an opportunity to write and mail a letter to the Prime Minister.  We will be learning about South Africa, too, and are memorizing the South Africa national anthem which we hope to sing Monday, June 2nd, at the K-5 chapel.  Parents are welcome to hear the Grade 5's that morning.

Science--We are learning about renewable resources.  Today, we watched a video of the water cycle. We will have a Chapter 9 "Renewable Resources Can Replace Themselves" test this Friday, May 23rd. Students may review their handouts and create study notes for the chapter, pages 176-201.

French--Students need to memorize their lines by May 29th.  Performance date is June 17th at 9:00 a.m. All parents are invited.

Bible--Students received today a new Bible Memory I Timothy 6:6-10.  Test is on Monday, May 26th. There will be no Spelling test this week.
